Great ADK Birding Celebration

While winter held off the arrival of spring this year with both hands, warm weather is finally coming on in full force – and birds are coming with it...

Hence the Great Adirondack Birding Celebration (GABC) is aptly named. Birding enthusiasts should not miss this annual celebration based at the Paul Smith’s College VIC. The GABC has been taking folks out on birding adventures for years on the first weekend in June – when our recently arrived birds are in their places and singing on cue. Their concert is not one to be missed.

ADK mountain biking capital

As the mountain biking capital of the Adirondacks, New York’s Whiteface Region is best experienced on two wheels. Whether you’re just starting out or ready to tackle the greatest vertical drop in the East, this rapidly growing mountain bike destination has it all. Stop in a local bike shop for trail conditions and to purchase a trail map. Better yet, ask about one of the many group rides this community offers and let the locals lead the way. Interest peaked? Township 7: which beer are you?

From IPA's to stouts to lagers and everything in between, beer lovers tend to enjoy a variety of different options depending on their situation.

Personally, I like to try just about anything new when it comes to beer -- it all depends on the occasion, season, and the food that it will be paired with. However, I believe that there is the perfect beer for every individual out there and I also believe there's a good chance it can be found at the Township 7 Brewing Company here in Northern Franklin County.

Hobie Cat Regatta: watch or ride!

You don’t have to own a Hobie Cat sailboat to participate in the third annual Schroon Lake Hobie Cat Regatta.

The regatta happens every Father's Day weekend — this year it’s June 15-17. Event organizer Glen Repko said about 30 Hobie Cats will take to the water. That’s 30 brightly colored sails, all traversing Schroon Lake at 25 knots to the delight of spectators and sailors alike. The best part is, anyone who wants to know what being on a Hobie Cat is like can hitch a ride on one during the regatta.

Spring: Placid’s peak season for you

The winter months in Lake Placid can seem to last forever. We enjoy the days on the mountain, the skating on Mirror Lake, and the cross-country skiing. The cold nights are perfect for snuggling in at your hotel by the fire, or sipping cocktails in the hotel bar. But once the snow starts to melt the excitement really starts to build as we daydream about the impending summer season and our next big adventure.

But first...spring.
