A master mixologist, autumn adventures, and more!

Fall in love, without the puns. Our colorful leaves won't last forever -- come get some!

Get close to romance

Romantic weekends have certain requirements. It's about the couple spending time on couple things. Pretty surroundings, relaxed hospitality, good food, and fun things to do together make everyone's must-have list.

Into the Boreas Tract

I’ve wanted to hike into the recently acquired Boreas Ponds Tract since the state bought it over a year ago, and the other day my friend and I were able to explore the area for the first time. We first checked out the access points off Ragged Mountain and Sand Pond Roads, but our plan all along was to walk in along Gulf Brook Road, which allows the easiest entry into the site.

Azure Mountain hike

On a recent Saturday, my family and I awoke to perfect hiking weather - cool and clear with low humidity. My wife and I chose Azure Mountain because we were looking for a hike that our youngest son, who had just turned 4, could do on his own.

A challenge, Halloween, and the cosmos

With the chilly weather and changing of the leaves comes fall, and a whole new lineup of events.

Cycles for the season

Talk to any serious cyclists and they will tell you the Lake Champlain Region offers some of the best cycling trails anywhere. Lake Champlain Bikeways has made it their mission to get the word out to avid cyclists. They have identified numerous themed loops and bike trails throughout this valley; over 1,600 miles of them. The routes range in length from 10 to 60 miles, and extend between two states and two countries.

A creative mix

It was Friday afternoon, and a few of us decided to grab an end-of-the-week drink to kick the weekend off right. I walked into the bar area of Kanu, the rustic-yet-elegant restaurant on the second floor of the Whiteface Lodge, ready to meet their master mixologist Zach Blair.

Start at the Raquette River Boat Launch on Route 3, locally known as "The Crusher," and pick from a number of paddles to wetlands, ponds, a waterfall, or the oxbow.

Did you know?

The small town of Morehouse, in the southwest corner of the Adirondacks, is home to the smallest post office in New York and the second smallest in the entire country.
