The tastiest season of the year

In the Adirondacks, local produce, from veggies to beef, berries to maple syrup, is a distinctly special part of life, all year round. And then there's fall! Fall is when culinary delights become the most exciting, the most sought-after, and the most celebrated, lovingly crafted into exceptional meals and sweet treats. This is the season of crisp apples, brightly colored pumpkins, corn, and more. If you love food, exploring new flavors, and sampling your way through a destination, fall in the Adirondacks is the clear winner you need to explore.

Farmers' markets abound in the Adirondacks! From mountainside playing fields to downtown parks and town halls, many communities host these exciting markets throughout the week, well into fall. You'll find plenty of fresh produce, but those vacationers who don't feel like cooking don't worry: you'll also find handmade breads, pastries, jams, relishes, local honey, as well as crafts, including pressed flower art, ceramics, and photography. You'll find the perfect, tasty gift to bring home and a snack for the road.

Attend a fall festival

Pumpkins, apples, and other decidedly fall flavors go with everything: ale, pie, muffins, music, dancing, painting, costumes...in fact, what don't they go with? Maybe that's part of the reason why fall festivals are so exciting, so special, and so beloved, year after year. A fall festival, like Oktoberfest at Whiteface Mountain, Oaktoberfest at Oak Mountain, and Fort Ticonderoga's Heritage, Harvest, and Horse Festival, celebrates this colorful season with spirited combinations of locally grown, made, and brewed food and drink, live music, dancing, crafts, and unique, only-in-the-Adirondacks activities.

A-maize-ing adventures

Corny jokes aside, corn season is one of the best food seasons out there. At markets and events, try freshly cooked corn on the cob and popcorn, then take on the challenge of a corn maze! Mazes in Saranac Lake and at the Lake Champlain Region's Fort Ticonderoga offer exciting fun for all ages, with bonus features like flashlight nights and live music. Fort Ticonderoga's Heroic Maze was just named to USA Today's Top 10 Corn Mazes in the entire country!
